About

Hi - my name is Karuna! I have a bachelors degree in Earth Sciences from Dickinson College and a masters degree in Geomatics from Stockholm University. My interest in climate science is motivated by my love and reverence for the great outdoors! Born in a family of mountaineers, I have heard accounts of glacial recession in the Himalayas as seen by my father and uncles from when I was a child. These accounts evolved over the years into a passion for wanting to study glaciology.

Recently, I completed a postgraduate diploma in Science Communication from the University of Otago to gain essential skills for sharing scientific concepts in a way that resonates with a broader audience. I currently work in Ladakh, India on climate adaptation. I am committed to learning and actively listening to marginalized voices to advocate for traditional knowledge, climate science, and the communities most affected by these issues. I wish to document my journey with fieldwork and research along with my love for photography, data visualization, story telling, and in the future, filmmaking!
